Built around 1550 for the O'Brien clan, Newtown is architecturally unusual: a cylindrical tower rising from a square pyramidal base, a design shared by only around 30 of Ireland's roughly 3,000 tower houses. Restored in 1993–94, it now anchors the Burren College of Art campus on the Burren Way walking trail.
