A distinctive circular tower house built from sandstone rather than the usual regional limestone, Doonagore overlooks Doolin and the Atlantic. Survivors of the 1588 Spanish Armada wreck were reportedly executed here, and the castle was restored as a private residence in the 1970s by architect Percy Le Clerc.
