Seat of the Knights of Glin, a FitzGerald branch dating to the 14th century, the original tower house was abandoned in the late 1600s. The current Georgian Gothic mansion beside the River Shannon was built around 1780 and remained the Knight of Glin's family home until purchased by actress Catherine FitzGerald and Dominic West in 2015.
