The seat of the Earls Erne on the shores of Upper Lough Erne, originally established in 1611 during the Plantation of Ulster by Michael Balfour. The ruins of the original 17th-century castle, damaged by fire and during the Williamite War, stand beside the 1830s Gothic Revival house that replaced it; the estate is now managed as a National Trust nature reserve.
