A six-storey tower house built by the O'Flaherty clan ('the Fighting O'Flahertys'), who dominated the region from the 14th to 17th centuries, occupying land near the banks of Lough Corrib. It retains a rare double bawn (walled enclosure) and murder-hole over the entrance, and was fully restored in the 1960s. Now managed by the OPW with seasonal guided access.
